6TH ANNUAL IOWA PLAYWRIGHTS WORKSHOP
One element of Tallgrass Theatre’s mission is to provide an outlet for local talent to explore and develop. We believe that we achieve this in part by fostering the development of new plays by writers from Iowa. We do this by providing a forum in which the playwright can receive feedback on their work, revise their work, and eventually see their work performed.
Tallgrass Theatre Company’s Iowa Playwrights Workshop (IPW) was created in 2006 for the purpose of developing and showcasing fresh new works by Iowa writers. Playwrights are encouraged to submit a single piece of their work at any time to Tallgrass Theatre via email, whether it be a one-act or full-length play. Scripts for the Workshop are read and evaluated by Tallgrass’ artistic staff, and in October, one script will be selected for the workshop.
Come see the final piece of the process January 20, 2012-February 4, 2012 with Dancing with the Moon by Tom Deiker!

…and in the Spring:
April 27 – May 12, 2012—THE SYLVIA REP
—Tallgrass’ First-ever Repertory Production!
SYLVIA by A.R. Gurney and THE GOAT OR, WHO IS SYLVIA? by Edward Albee
SYLVIA: Greg and Kate have moved to Manhattan after 22 years of child-raising in the suburbs. Greg’s career as a financial trader is winding down, while Kate’s career, as a public-school English teacher, is beginning to offer her more opportunities. Greg brings home a dog he found in the park—or that has found him—bearing only the name “Sylvia” on her name tag. A street-smart mixture of Lab and Poodle, Sylvia becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife. The marriage is put in serious jeopardy—will a compromise be found, or will Sylvia take over?
THE GOAT, OR WHO IS SYLVIA?: (Winner of the 2001 Tony Award) On his 50th birthday, Martin, a world-famous architect, prepares for a recorded interview by an old friend in the TV business; but in the course of the conversation a secret emerges that threatens to turn celebration to tragedy. The Goat is hugely enjoyable parable that plumbs the deepest questions of social constraints on the individual expression of love.
